Master’s Degree in Economics (DM 270/04)

The Master’s Degree Programme in Economics (Class LM-56-R Scienze dell'economia), is designed to provide advanced training to students coming from three-year undergraduate programmes who wish to deepen their understanding of economics and related phenomena, with the aim of entering highly qualified professional contexts or pursuing second-level Master’s programmes and PhD studies.

The Master's degree in Economics is not entirely taught in English. Three classes are taught entirely in Italian (Economia degli intermediari finanziari, Diritto dei mercati finanziari and Metodi matematici), and knowledge of Italian is required for enrolment.

Pathways to choose from
The Master’s Degree in Economics is structured into two different curricula, each designed to meet specific interests and professional fields.
The first, “Finance, Business and Markets”, offers a pathway with courses taught only in Italian, complemented by some courses delivered in a bilingual mode (Italian/English). Students are also given the opportunity to choose elective courses offered entirely in English.
The second, “Economic Data Analysis”, has a more international and quantitative focus. Admission requires a B2-level English language certification. All courses in the first semester of the second year are taught in English, as are the related and supplementary courses.

Double Degree Opportunities
Only for the Economic Data Analysis curriculum is it possible to take part in Double Degree programmes. Students may choose to obtain a double qualification, earning a degree both at the University of Sassari and at one of the partner foreign universities: Université de Bordeaux and Université de Corse (France), or the University of Timisoara (Romania). These experiences provide significant academic and cultural enrichment and are highly valued in the international job market.

Admission Requirements
Admission to the Master’s Degree Programme in Economics requires possession of a three-year Bachelor’s degree and the successful completion of an assessment procedure. This includes the evaluation of curricular requirements, an individual interview to assess personal preparation, and an English language test, which is mandatory regardless of the number of English exams completed during the Bachelor’s degree. For more details on the procedure, please consult the section dedicated to admission to Master’s Degree programmes.

International students from non-EU countries must follow the specific procedures outlined in the section dedicated to International Students. All international students must pass an Italian language interview.

Programme Goals
From an educational perspective, the programme aims to train professionals capable of operating in complex environments, both in the public and private sectors. The skills acquired include the ability to analyse and interpret economic phenomena, forecast scenarios, evaluate investments, design and apply public policies, regulate markets, and support strategic decision-making. The programme offers a solid initial foundation in legal, economic, business, mathematical and econometric disciplines, followed by the development of specialised theoretical and practical skills. Particular attention is given to the analysis of uncertainty, imperfect information, and the use of quantitative tools for economic analysis.

The programme reflects the growing demand for economists able to understand new international dynamics, globalisation processes, macroeconomic coordination, and changes in public institutions. Graduates will be able to operate competently in strategic sectors such as financial market supervision, wealth management, public policy evaluation, and economic, environmental, and social sustainability.

Career Opportunities
The programme offers numerous professional opportunities. Graduates may access qualified roles within banks, insurance companies, financial firms, pension funds, rating agencies, research centres, national and international organisations, market regulatory authorities, and public administrations. They may also work as consultants, officers, or technical experts in economic development bodies, credit guarantee consortia, territorial agencies, or promotional institutions. Finally, the programme allows access to the State Examination for qualification as a Chartered Accountant, with registration in Section A of the Professional Register, as provided by Legislative Decree 139/2005.

To complement the educational offer, the programme enhances English-language proficiency by including several courses taught in English and providing international experiences that enrich students’ curricula.
